EIA's national retail gasoline average hit $4.096 per gallon for the week ending July 27, 2026 — up $0.095 from $4.001 the week before, and the third consecutive weekly increase after a June dip. Four weeks earlier, on July 6, the average sat at $3.777/gal. Run the math on a standard 150-mile route day at 18 mpg: roughly 8.33 gallons burned, or about $34.13 in fuel at the current price — up from roughly $31.47 four weeks ago. Multiply across a 40-van fleet running six days a week and weekly fuel spend has climbed from about $7,548 to roughly $8,189 over the same stretch, with no change in stop count, route length, or rate card to show for it.
That's the part operators tend to miss when they check gas prices weekly instead of tracking the trend. A single 9.5-cent jump looks manageable in isolation.
